GEMS World Academy is a private, co-educational international school in Al Barsha South, Dubai, with a campus spread over 42,000m2 of land. The school, which was set up in 2008 and opened a year later, is run by GEMs Education. It can accommodate around 2050 students. The academy follows the IB Curriculum, offering the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme \xe2\x80\x93 the latter an academically challenging programme of education with final examinations that prepares students aged 16 to 19 for university success and life beyond. Sport and physical education are viewed as a crucial element of the curriculum, allowing students to explore their talents, develop their skills and enhance their abilities whilst enjoying an active, healthy lifestyle. Extensive facilities for sport include an Olympic-sized 50m swimming pool, flood-lit tennis courts, fully-equipped skateboard area, junior gym and a fitness centre. All GEMS teachers have access to the GEMS Professional Development programme and over 150 events and workshops each year to help keep their teaching practices cutting-edge.
