The Model Maker is responsible for creating high-quality physical prototypes, sculpture maquettes, and scale models that bring artistic, architectural, and product design concepts to life. This role combines craftsmanship, material knowledge, and precision with artistic interpretation to support Ralma Studio's creative and production teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret 2D sketches, CAD files, and 3D digital models to create accurate physical models and mock-ups.
Fabricate models using materials such as resin, clay, foam, wood, metal, and 3D-printed parts.
Operate tools and machines such as CNC routers, laser cutters, and 3D printers (FDM/SLA).
Assemble, sand, paint, and finish models to achieve premium-level detail and surface quality.
Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and artists to refine proportions, balance, and aesthetics.
Create molds, castings, or replicas when required for batch production.
Integrate mechanical or lighting elements (LED, motorized or rotating bases) when needed.
Maintain workshop safety, tool cleanliness, and proper material storage.
Document progress, provide updates, and ensure project deadlines are met.
Qualifications:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Fine Arts, Product Design, or related field.
Minimum 2-5 years of experience in model making, sculpture, or fabrication.
Strong understanding of materials (resin, wood, metal, foam, etc.) and finishing techniques.
Familiarity with 3D modeling and printing software (Rhino, Blender, Fusion 360, ZBrush, etc.) is a plus.
High attention to detail, craftsmanship, and ability to follow artistic direction.
Problem-solving and time management skills, especially under tight deadlines.
Knowledge of painting, airbrushing, and surface finishing is an advantage.
