Job Description

We are seeking an experienced journalist with excellent reporting and writing skills to be Energy Correspondent covering the Gulf, based in Dubai. This is an exciting opportunity to help drive Reuters\xe2\x80\x99 energy coverage from the world\xe2\x80\x99s top oil producing region - working closely with the Chief Energy Correspondent for the Middle East, the wider energy team as well as the Gulf team. The successful candidate will help cover energy policy and break news on the energy corporate file and wider industry. This include major investments, divestments, deals to monetise assets, as well as outages and attacks on energy installations and infrastructure. You will report on how governments and energy companies around the region grapple with the energy transition and its consequences for their oil and gas revenues and the economies that depend on fossil fuel exports. About the Role As our Energy Correspondent in the Gulf, you will:
  • Bring enthusiasm, energy, stamina, commitment and the desire to win on breaking news on a vital file
  • Be a team player. You need to work closely, collaboratively and collegially with the global Reuters oil team
  • Bring original ideas for stories on governmental policy and on trends and changes in the industry
  • Deliver a first-class initiative file that will include ambitious investigative pieces
  • Be a strong all-round journalist comfortable breaking news and filing at speed as well as reporting and writing deeply reported enterprise stories
  • Contribute to stories across the file that require regional input on energy
To be our Energy Correspondent you will likely have:
  • At least three years\xe2\x80\x99 experience covering energy
  • Strong news judgement, writing and story-telling skills
  • A proven track record of breaking major stories
  • Exceptional contact building skills
  • The ability to explain complex industry and market issues to a wide business audience
  • Wider experience covering finance or business
  • Experience using data and analytical tools to highlight trends
  • Spoken Arabic is preferred
