Job Description

OBJECTIVE:



Responsible for overseeing and managing the installation of a building's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure they comply with design specifications, safety standards, and building codes. Their duties include supervising installation work, managing subcontractors, conducting inspections and testing, resolving technical issues, and preparing reports on progress and quality.

Key responsibilities



Supervise installation

: Monitor and direct the day-to-day installation of mechanical (HVAC), electrical (power, lighting), and plumbing systems on the construction site.

Ensure compliance

: Verify that all work adheres to approved drawings, design standards, safety regulations, and relevant building codes (local and international).

Manage resources

: Coordinate with and manage subcontractors, monitor project timelines, and ensure the proper use of materials.

Quality control and testing

: Conduct inspections, perform tests, and manage the commissioning of MEP systems to confirm they are functional and efficient.

Documentation

: Prepare and review technical reports, material submittals, method statements, and other project documentation.

Problem-solving

: Address technical issues that arise during the installation process and support change management as needed.

Coordination

: Collaborate with other engineers (architectural, structural) and stakeholders, including consultants, contractors, and clients, to ensure the MEP systems are integrated correctly with the overall building design.

Required qualifications:



Educational background

A bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is typically required. Some positions may accept a degree in civil engineering with relevant MEP experience.

Technical skills

A strong understanding of HVAC, electrical systems, and plumbing principles is essential. Proficiency with design software like AutoCAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools such as Revit is also required.

Project management skills

The role demands strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities to manage timelines, budgets, and teams effectively.

Professional certifications

While not always mandatory, certifications like a Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD), or LEED accreditation can significantly advance a career.
