Create detailed designs for mechanical (HVAC), electrical, and plumbing systems, often using specialized software and preparing sketches and calculations.
Coordination:
Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure MEP systems are integrated seamlessly into the overall building plan.
Compliance:
Ensure all designs and installations adhere to relevant building codes, safety standards, and regulations.
Calculations & Equipment Selection:
Perform load calculations (e.g., for HVAC) and select appropriate equipment such as generators, pumps, and lighting fixtures.
Project Management:
Help manage project budgets, schedules, and resources, and prepare cost estimates for the MEP systems.
Installation Oversight:
Supervise the installation of MEP systems on-site, monitor progress, and manage the testing and commissioning process.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve engineering issues that arise during the construction or maintenance phases.
Maintenance and Support:
Provide technical support and plan maintenance for existing MEP systems in a facilities management role.
Typical duties
Conducting site inspections and reviews of contractor work to ensure quality and adherence to plans.
Preparing reports, estimates, and quotations for management.
Implementing sustainable and energy-efficient solutions in system designs.
Monitoring on-site health and safety policies.
