The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and managing building systems that ensure functionality, safety, and efficiency. This role involves coordinating with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated, code-compliant solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities1. Design & Engineering
Develop detailed MEP system designs including HVAC, electrical power/distribution, lighting, fire protection, water supply, drainage, and other building services.
Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and equipment selections.
Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and system sizing using engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, HAP, ETAP, Dialux).
2. Project Coordination
Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and project managers to ensure system integration.
Review shop drawings, material submittals, and design changes for compliance with project requirements.
Participate in design review meetings, clash detection, and BIM coordination sessions.
3. Site Supervision & Quality Control
Conduct site inspections to verify installation quality and ensure adherence to design documents and codes.
Provide technical guidance to contractors and resolve on-site engineering issues.
Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion of MEP activities.
4. Compliance & Standards
Ensure designs comply with local building codes, international standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, IPC, etc.), and safety regulations.
Conduct testing, commissioning, and validation of MEP systems.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare project reports, progress updates, test reports, and O&M documentation.
Maintain accurate records of design changes, site decisions, and approvals.
QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related field.
(Preferred) Master's degree or specialized certification in MEP disciplines.
Experience
2-10+ years of experience in MEP design and execution, depending on role.
Experience with building projects such as commercial, residential, industrial, or healthcare facilities.
Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, and engineering analysis software.
Excellent understanding of MEP codes, standards, and best practices.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple tasks.
