Position Overview
Majid Al Futtaim is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to drive energy efficiency and emissions reduction across its portfolio of properties. The role focuses on technical oversight, data governance, and performance validation to support the Group's decarbonisation roadmap, Net Zero commitments, and compliance with global sustainability standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate Scope 1 and 2 reporting, supporting science-based targets, and enhancing mechanical system performance for long-term sustainability impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and validate mechanical system performance data from all operating companies to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GHG Protocol and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical oversight for emissions inventories, focusing on energy consumption, normalization factors, and mechanical system performance.
  • Govern and monitor Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions related to mechanical systems such as HVAC, district cooling, heating, ventilation, and fuel-based equipment.
  • Conduct technical assessments, energy audits, and root-cause analyses to identify improvement opportunities in energy efficiency and system performance.
  • Advise on low-carbon mechanical solutions and retrofits, including renewable integration, efficient cooling systems, and energy recovery technologies.
  • Collaborate with design, development, and engineering teams to embed sustainable mechanical design principles in new developments and asset retrofits.
  • Ensure mechanical data integrity and consistency across reporting platforms to support internal audits, external assurance, and sustainability-linked financing.
  • Support Group-wide reporting on decarbonisation progress, energy intensity, and emissions performance.
  • Contribute technical insights for SBTi (Science-Based Targets initiative) and ESG disclosure frameworks.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for mechanical data collection and analysis to strengthen transparency and compliance.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for internal stakeholders, providing guidance on technical issues and project optimization.
  • Liaise with consultants, auditors, and partners to ensure alignment with international environmental performance standards.
Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's degree or certification in Energy, Building Services, or Sustainability preferred).
  • 5-8 years of experience in mechanical engineering with focus on energy efficiency, HVAC optimization, or building system decarbonisation.
  • Proven knowledge of GHG Protocol, SBTi methodologies, and carbon reporting standards.
  • Experience in analyzing mechanical system data, energy modeling, and conducting energy audits in the built environment or real estate sector.
  • Familiarity with tools such as RETScreen, EnergyPlus, or other energy management systems is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, technical reporting, and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to engage effectively across technical and executive teams.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver measurable outcomes.
