Mission



Provides mechanical project engineering services including infield project construction operations supervision (shop drawings review, materials approval, installations inspection, infield liaising with project team, client and contractors) and design office support (design calculations, technical studies, BIM execution).

The Fire Protection Engineer will report to the Mechanical head/senior during design office assignment the and the Construction Manager during site assignment.

Key Responsibilities




Design Office



Developing and designing fire protection systems: Creating plans and design report for fire suppression, and alarm systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards Design development of FLS related systems. Collaborating with the design team: Working closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other professionals to integrate fire protection systems into the overall building design. Providing input and guidance to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. Liaising with local authorities for the process of obtaining NOC and design approval. Performing calculations and simulations: Conducting engineering calculations, such as hydraulic calculations for water-based suppression systems, and utilizing computer simulations to analyze fire behavior, smoke movement, and evacuation strategies. Carry out a variety of FLS study tasks ranging from means of egress assessments to engineering calculations including smoke modelling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modelling. Ability to defend the performed design upon any challenge from other bodies. Reviewing and approving designs: Reviewing drawings, specifications, and design documentation related to fire protection systems. Providing feedback, identifying potential issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. Liaising with authorities : Communicating and coordinating with local fire departments, fire marshal, and clients to obtain necessary approvals, permits, and NOCs for the FLS related systems. Conducting site visits and inspections: Visiting construction sites to inspect the installation and performance of fire protection systems, addressing any deficiencies or non-compliance issues, and ensuring adherence to design specifications. Documentation and reporting: Creating technical reports, documenting design decisions, and maintaining accurate records of project-related correspondence, approvals, and inspections. These responsibilities may vary depending on the specific requirements of the design office and the projects being undertaken. Demonstrating the ability to defend the design decisions against any challenges from other entities. Support day to day site operations progress, monitoring and reporting. Monitor the installation works execution against approved Method Statements, shop drawings and Monitor works progress and report to planning department for any delays. Conduct surveillance and regular walkthroughs of the Site to ascertain that Mechanical works are proceeding in accordance with requirements. Report any potential problems, issues, and deficiencies related to the Mechanical works to the Senior Mechanical Engineer in a timely manner. Produce daily record and report the daily physical progress of Mechanical works made by the Contractor. Assist the Project Manager in the preparation of the monthly Project Status Report as required. Conduct snagging and re-snagging (as necessary) of the Mechanical Works declared to be complete by the Contractor. Maintaining current knowledge and staying updated on regulations and legislation pertaining to fire protection and life safety.

Profile Specifications - Minimum Requirements





10 years of project administration of large-scale projects within the consultancy industry. Master or Bachelor Degree in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering. Previous working experience in the GCC region. Ability to independently handle design responsibility. Extensive and thorough understanding of UAE FLS code of practice. Comprehensive and strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards: 13, 14, 20, 72, 90A, 92. Sound knowledge of NFPA codes and standards: 1, 101, 220, 409 and 5000. Knowledge of Plumbing and HVAC design is an added advantage. General computer proficiency and good knowledge of the following programs and MS applications: AutoCAD, Word, Excel, and Power Point; Membership in professional international accreditation bodies is an added advantage. Mandatory Society of Engineers membership / Abu Dhabi Engineering license Fluent in English - both written and spoken.
