Job Description

A mechanical engineer in a fire fighting company is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mechanical systems related to fire safety, including fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems. They ensure these systems comply with safety regulations and standards, conduct site assessments, prepare documentation, and provide technical support during installation and maintenance. Key Responsibilities: System Design and Development: Designing and developing mechanical systems for fire alarm and fire fighting systems, including sprinkler systems, hydrant systems, and fire suppression systems. Compliance and Standards: Ensuring all designs and installations adhere to relevant fire safety regulations, codes (like NFPA and local building codes), and standards. Site Assessments and Inspections: Conducting site inspections to assess fire safety requirements and evaluate the performance of installed systems. Documentation and Reporting: Preparing and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and reports related to fire protection systems. Project Coordination: Collaborating with project managers, other engineers, and contractors to ensure successful project execution. Technical Support: Providing technical guidance and support to installation and maintenance teams, and troubleshooting issues with fire safety systems. Staying Updated: Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in fire safety technology and relevant regulations. Specific Tasks: Performing hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems. Selecting appropriate equipment and materials for fire suppression and detection. Coordinating with other disciplines (e.g., electrical, architectural) for integrated building systems. Supervising fire system installations and commissioning. Conducting fire risk assessments and hazard analyses. Developing and implementing fire safety plans. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering. Experience in fire protection system design, installation, and maintenance. Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NFPA, local building codes). Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit). Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
