Mechanical Analysis Engineer \xe2\x80\x93 Thermal Design

The Role

As a thermal design engineer part of the Radar Solutions product unit, you will participate in multidisciplinary teams to design and develop thermal management solutions for complex radar and telecommunications products. You will support systems, electronic, software, mechanical, and integration engineers by providing thermal and computational fluid dynamic analysis, aiming at solving heat problems and designing for sufficient cooling on products in all phases of the development process.

You will play a critical role in the creation and future expansion of a specialised technical team dedicated to advancing thermal engineering solutions through product-based design and R&D activities. Responsibilities

• Translate general system requirements into objective thermal design constraints and objectives.
• Perform engineering calculations to define and develop energy models and substantiate design recommendations.
• Define, develop, and optimise comprehensive thermal management solutions at any system level.
• Determine test procedures and measurement techniques to validate thermal and CFD analysis models.
• Define and participate in the integration and testing processes of prototypes, subsystems, and products.
• Assist in the selection and development of manufacturers and suppliers.
• Manage technical aspects of subcontracted thermal engineering work.

Required Formal Qualifications, Experience and Background

• Academic degree in a related field to thermal engineering: mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, energy engineering, or engineering physics.
• Experience of a minimum of 5 years in the development of thermal management solutions for high-power electronics and mechanical systems.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments.
• Familiarity with the selection and use of ISO, EN and MIL standards and specifications.
• Proficiency in the English language with excellent communication skills.

Required Technical Competencies

• Advanced proficiency in modelling, simulation, and visualisation of fluid flow, heat transfer, and turbulence.
• Demonstrated experience in understanding and using analysis software, preferably Ansys Electronics module, OpenFOAM, or STAR CCM+.
• Experience in developing, verifying, and validating coupled CFD conjugate heat transfer models.
• Strong foundation in numerical analysis, programming, and scripting.
• Ability to define technical specifications of commercial thermal components and equipment.
• General understanding of engineering development cycles.
• Operational proficiency in configuration control, change management, and design data structure.

Highly Desired Competencies

• Strong knowledge of hardware design for manufacturability and assembly.
• Understanding of basic design of hardware for electronics \xe2\x80\x93 packaging, cabling and electromagnetic compatibility analysis.
• Proficiency in the detailed selection of materials and manufacturing methods.
• Adept at specifying and assessing simulation software and solving algorithms for future capabilities.
