Job Description

A Marine Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems aboard ships, boats, and other marine vessels. This includes working on power distribution systems, navigation equipment, communication systems, and automation controls in accordance with maritime regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Install and maintain electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment on marine vessels. Diagnose electrical problems and perform repairs on motors, generators, alternators, lighting systems, and electronic control systems. Conduct regular inspections to ensure electrical systems comply with safety codes and maritime regulations. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics. Operate hand tools and testing equipment such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers, and oscilloscopes. Collaborate with other marine engineers and technicians during ship construction, maintenance, or retrofit projects. Maintain accurate logs and records of maintenance and repair activities. Follow all safety procedures and maritime regulations while working in confined spaces or hazardous environments.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED (required); technical school certification or associate degree in electrical technology or marine engineering (preferred). Completed apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job training in marine electrical systems. Knowledge of marine electrical codes and standards (e.g., ABS, IMO, SOLAS). Ability to work in challenging environments, including confined spaces and inclement weather. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks in demanding conditions.
