Role Value Proposition:

This role sits within the Global Indirect Tax Team, itself a part of the MetLife Tax Department. The over-arching strategy of the Tax Department is to ensure the right taxes are paid at the right time wherever MetLife operates around the world. This involves several facets, including: * A commitment to compliance;

• Effective risk management; and
• Constructive and transparent relationship with tax authorities.

This role is integral to delivering on that strategy, as demonstrated by the key responsibilities below.

Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities are:

• Manage and review VAT return filings in the UAE, Bahrain and Oman.
• Lead VAT implementation in Qatar.
• Lead discovery efforts and early preparations for electronic invoicing in UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar.
• Lead relationship with Gulf tax authorities, including voluntary disclosures and audits.
• VAT advice and support for MetLife Gulf businesses on projects and ad hoc enquiries.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

• 10 years\' indirect tax experience, either profession or in-house or both, including significant experience with VAT in Gulf countries.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with proven abilities to act independently, to manage risks effectively and in a timely manner.
• Interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills with proven abilities to build relationships and manage stakeholders, as well as clear communication in plain language for non-tax stakeholders.

Preferred:

• Insurance industry experience.
• Experience in using PeopleSoft and insurance policy administration systems.
• Reconciliations of VAT returns and general ledger accounts.
• English and Arabic language skills.
