About the role




The role is responsible for analysing and estimating the costs associated with engineering projects. He plays a crucial role in project planning and execution by providing accurate cost assessments, helping to control project expenses, and ensuring that engineering projects stay within budget constraints. This position requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and cost estimation techniques. Additionally, responsible for project planning, scheduling in construction, and engineering. This role combines skills in project management, cost analysis, and schedule development to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. Cost Engineers play a key role in project efficiency and success.


Responsibilities



1-

Project Planning:




Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables.


Develop comprehensive project plans, including work breakdown structures (WBS) and project schedules.


Create project timelines and milestones to track progress and deadlines.

Scheduling




Utilize project management software to create, maintain, and update project schedules.


Allocate resources, manpower, and equipment efficiently to ensure that project tasks are completed on time.


Monitor and analyse project schedules to identify potential delays or bottlenecks and propose solutions.

Cost Estimation:




Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other technical documents to understand the scope of the engineering project.


Use historical data, cost databases, and industry benchmarks to estimate the cost of materials, labour, equipment, and other resources required for the project.


Develop detailed cost estimates, considering all relevant factors such as project complexity, location, and market conditions. Budget Development:




Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to create comprehensive project budgets. Ensure that budgets are realistic, accurate, and aligned with the project's goals and objectives. Update and revise budgets as needed, considering changes in project scope or external factors.

Control:


Monitor project expenses throughout the project lifecycle to identify cost overruns and deviations from the budget.


Implement cost control measures to keep the project on track financially, such as recommending cost-saving alternatives or value engineering options.


Prepare and present cost reports to project stakeholders and management, highlighting budget variances and proposing solutions.

Risk Assessment:

Work with project teams to develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.

Reporting




Prepare and present regular project progress / cost reports to project managers and stakeholders, highlighting schedule and cost performance.

Conduct post-project cost analysis to evaluate the accuracy of initial cost estimates and identify areas for improvement.


Use cost analysis data to refine cost estimation methods and improve future budgeting accuracy.

Documentation:




Maintain comprehensive and organized records of all project schedules, cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports.


Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies in cost estimation and reporting.

Collaboration:




Collaborate with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, and other departments to gather relevant information and ensure the accuracy of cost estimates and budgets.

Candidate requirements




Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, construction management, with 9 to 10 years of experience in related field.


Proven experience in project planning, scheduling, cost estimation and budgeting for engineering or construction projects.


Proficiency in project management software and cost estimation tools.


Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.


Proficiency in using cost estimation software and spreadsheets.


Knowledge of engineering principles, construction materials, and project management principles and methodologies.


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Ability to work in a team and under pressure to meet project deadlines.


Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to project management and cost estimation.
