Job Description

Job Summary: The Maintenance Engineer/Technician (Firefighting) is responsible for ensuring the optimal operation, maintenance, and compliance of firefighting and fire protection systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, pumps, hydrants, and suppression systems. This role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and ensuring adherence to NFPA, OSHA, and local fire safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: 1. System Maintenance & Inspections
  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of firefighting systems (sprinklers, fire pumps, hydrants, extinguishers, suppression systems).
  • Perform functional tests on fire alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting as per NFPA standards.
  • Identify and rectify faults in fire protection equipment to ensure reliability.
2. Repairs & Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in firefighting systems (mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components).
  • Replace defective parts, recalibrate devices, and ensure proper system functionality.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform corrective maintenance promptly.
3. Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure all firefighting systems comply with NFPA, OSHA, IFC (International Fire Code), and local regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, and compliance certifications.
  • Prepare reports for clients, management, and regulatory authorities.
4. Installation & Upgrades
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new firefighting systems.
  • Recommend and implement system upgrades for improved efficiency and compliance.
  • Coordinate with contractors and engineers for system modifications.
5. Emergency Preparedness & Training
  • Support fire drills and emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Train staff on basic firefighting equipment operation and safety protocols.
  • Act as a technical resource during fire emergencies if required.
6. Inventory & Resource Management
  • Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop in good working condition.
  • Liaise with suppliers for procurement of firefighting materials.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Fire Safety, or related field.
  • Certifications: NFPA, NICET (Level I/II), OSHA, or fire safety certifications preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years in firefighting system maintenance, HVAC, or facility management.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in reading schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of fire pumps, sprinkler systems, gas suppression (FM200, COxe2x82x82), and alarm panels.
  • Basic electrical/plumbing skills for system repairs.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Good communication for client interactions and team coordination.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Capable of lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working in high-risk environments (industrial plants, high-rise buildings).
Work Environment:
  • Field & On-Site Work: Hospitals, factories, commercial buildings, data centers.
  • Conditions: May involve exposure to heat, noise, heights, or hazardous materials.
  • Schedule: Full-time, with occasional on-call duty for emergencies.
