is responsible for managing and overseeing all activities related to loading and unloading goods within a warehouse, distribution center, or transportation hub, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to safety regulations. They act as a link between management and the loading teams, focusing on process optimization and personnel management. Key Responsibilities
Supervision and Coordination:
Direct and coordinate the daily activities of loaders, material handlers, and equipment operators, assigning tasks and managing workflows.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce strict safety protocols and procedures, conduct regular equipment inspections, and ensure all team members use the required personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe working environment.
Efficiency and Optimization:
Plan loading sequences and methods to maximize space utilization in vehicles and minimize downtime. Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and suggest improvements to streamline processes.
Inventory and Documentation:
Monitor inventory levels, verify the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments against shipping records or waybills, and maintain detailed records of all loading activities.
Team Management:
Train, mentor, and motivate team members, provide performance feedback, and address employee issues or conflicts.
Problem Solving:
Respond quickly to daily problems such as delays, staffing shortages, or damaged freight, and implement immediate resolutions.
Communication and Reporting:
Act as the communication link between management and the floor staff, and prepare reports on performance metrics, incidents, and discrepancies for senior management.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education:
Typically a high school diploma or equivalent; some employers may prefer a diploma or a bachelor's degree in logistics or a related field.
Experience:
Previous experience in warehouse, logistics, or loading operations, often with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), inventory tracking software, and potentially load optimization software. Experience operating material handling equipment (MHE) such as forklifts is often required.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills are essential for coordinating teams and collaborating with other departments.
Physical Fitness:
The role can be physically demanding and may require the ability to lift heavy objects and work in a fast-paced environment.
