LSA Role Profile Purpose of Role

LSA Key Responsibilities
  • To establish supportive relationships with the pupil(s) concerned.
  • To determine the intervention strategies to be used to manage the behaviour of pupils with behavioural or emotional difficulties with the teacher.
  • To promote the acceptance and inclusion of pupil(s) of Determination, encouraging pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner.
  • Monitor the pupil\xe2\x80\x99s response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills
  • Provide pupils with the level and type of support specified by the teacher, whilst at the same time encouraging the pupils towards independence and accepting responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • Establish a good relationship with the pupils by using language and other communication skills that the pupil can understand and relate to.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner.
  • Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies by the use of praise and encouragement.
  • To supervise and support the children\xe2\x80\x99s play involving toys and apparatus and role play under the direction of the teacher.
  • To assist with language and other activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • To liaise regularly with the teacher and Inclusion Coordinator and to take part in planning meetings, inset days and any other meetings as required.
  • To take part in such activities, including swimming and outings, as may be required.
  • To abide by and work towards all the policies within the school e.g. Health and Safety.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of delivering interventions/curriculum within a school setting
  • Experience of working with young people with SEN
  • Experience of working effectively with the parents /carers of young people
  • Commitment to ensuring that all children are well safeguarded, supported and guided in both their personal development and academic
  • Experience of working within schools
  • Good understanding of teaching and learning principles
  • Good understanding of the emotional and psychological needs of young people
  • Ability to work creatively and therapeutically with children with a wide range of complex SEN, some of whom may show challenging behaviours
  • An ability to use ICT effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with adults and young people
  • The ability to work flexibly as part of a team and to work cooperatively and collaboratively
  • Evidence of a good record of attendance and punctuality, and an ability to cope under pressure
  • Work constructively as part of a team understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within the team
  • Energy, ambition and enthusiasm with a willingness to develop new skills
  • Ability to establish inclusive, respectful, supportive and constructive relationships with young people
  • Commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
  • Ability to relate to young people and adults
  • Willingness to undertake any training required for the development of this role
