ROLE

Develop and execute the company's Media Relations and Thought Leadership Strategy in alignment with the overarching Communications Strategy. Manage Media Relations with intelligence and sophistication across all markets and channels. Forge and protect relationships with key journalists and build knowledge of key media outlets and opinion makers.

Media Relations acts as a 24/7 global digital newsroom, managing relationships with print, online, social and broadcast media. The team aims to proactively build Majid Al Futtaim's reputation in the media by leveraging the successful execution of business strategy to achieve fair and balanced coverage. Media Relations provides functional support and advice on strategic media issues to the business and has a 24/7 crisis response capability. The team works closely with Finance/Treasury/Investor Relations to manage the disclosure of new external material.

The Thought Leadership aspect of the role focuses on leveraging Majid Al Futtaim experts in deliverables related to the communications strategy and creative storytelling initiatives. The team writes speeches, OpEds, and articles for senior executives/Chiefs and other designated leaders, produces and manages regional and global content for the website, edits the Sustainability Report, edits media releases; and develops campaign and corporate/business narratives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Thought Leadership & Creative Storytelling: Creatively mobilise C-Suite leaders and other spokespersons to tell the Majid Al Futtaim story on appropriate, high-impact public platforms. Media Relations and Editorial work together to develop creative tactics and strategic Majid Al Futtaim messages that aim to better position the strengths of Majid Al Futtaim and differentiate the company positively.
  • Lead Speakers Bureau Process: Mobilise non-media spokespersons at varied levels to tell the Majid Al Futtaim story based on their expertise on relevant platforms.
  • Press Relationship Management: Media Relations and Thought Leadership help to promote understanding of the company and its strategy among external stakeholders. Build and strengthen Majid Al Futtaim's relationship with key journalists in Majid Al Futtaim markets across the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Provide media support for major events, such as World Economic Forum.
  • Corporate Reputation Management: Media Relations and Thought Leadership help to promote understanding of the company and its strategy among external stakeholders. Guide and support country-level media engagement plans.
  • Crisis Management Support: Crisis management is about being prepared and engaged, ready to address potential stakeholder concerns. Follow Crisis Communications Standard processes, including a rapid response process for addressing media during crises.
  • Issues Management Support: Issues Management (IM) is a strategic business process to systematically identify and manage issues effectively and consistently across the Majid Al Futtaim Group. Identify and manage issues to help to mitigate crises
  • Centre of Excellence: Develop a digital Centre of Excellence to guide all brands in media relations strategy and protocol and develop media relations talent.
  • Disclosure Standard: The standard raises awareness of disclosure requirements and practices within Majid Al Futtaim and ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements regarding disclosure of information about Majid Al Futtaim to the public, including the media and investor communities.
  • Social Media: Media Relations and Thought Leadership is responsible for partnering with the Director of Digital and Social Media Strategy in managing Majid Al Futtaim's presence on social media channels in relation to the stakeholder messaging for which he/she is responsible, i.e., the press.
MEASUREMENT/DELIVERABLES:
  • Balanced and accurate media coverage, increased understanding of Majid Al Futtaim's business, strategy and practices.
  • Coverage in Tier 1 international and regional media that reflects company strategic direction.
  • Qualitative analysis of media coverage.
  • Leverage media coverage to influence key stakeholders.
  • Positive reports by mainstream media; Positive sentiment
  • Favorable feedback from reporters/editors
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for Majid Al Futtaim
  • Ability to resolve media related issues - misreports, negative stories, coordination on timing, etc.
  • Favorable coverage in media, measured by online measurement and listening tools and third party partner. Use of content in third-party outlets and channels. Use of content in other Majid Al Futtaim content packages, such as exhibitions and business presentations.
  • Use or reflection of campaign/theme content and messages in media; wide use of campaign/theme content in range of Communications materials.
  • Favorable internal client feedback.
  • Digital press kit updated annually.
