Overview / Responsibilities: Wood is currently recruiting for a Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to be part of our Engienering team in Abu Dhabi for a permanent staff role. Major Accountabilities Of Position
Ensures team member adherence to generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications
Supports the standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates
Contributes to the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful
Uses local/global standards to support technical excellence
Supports checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings
Technical supervision of project designated Instrumentation & Control designers and draftsmen in the execution of their duty
Preparation /checking of Specifications, data sheets
Performance of bid evaluation and vendor document review and approval
Carry out the design and technical reviews for all areas of work such as field instruments, control valves, DCS/ESD control systems, Fire & Gas systems, analysers, vibration monitoring systems, etc.
Project Deliverables
Gathers data from multiple sources and prepares engineering studies, analyses, calculations.
Determines technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros/cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations through official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc.
Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues customer approval
Reviews documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports.
Evaluate new technology advancements against existing design standards and revise where applicable
Identify and review new technology development which could be applicable in providing more cost effective facilities
Perform discipline specific engineering services such as:
Identify and report changes to project scope;
Contribute to appropriate studies, analyses and recommend actions;
Assist with the preparation of detailed designs and drawings, specifications, data, calculations and reports;
Provide assistance during procurement, construction and commissioning activities.
Provide assistance in preparation, review and approval of project documents for instrumentation and Instrumented Control and Safety Systems (DCS/ESD/F&G), design specifications, philosophy documents, functional design specifications and project cost estimates
Knowledge / Experience / Competencies Required
Demonstrate a visible and active commitment to HSE management and its associated requirements in a project environment
Specialized expertise of the regulations, codes and standards and a good understanding of onshore and offshore engineering practices applicable to Instrumentation & Control design for oil and gas facilities
Specialized expertise in design specifications for field instruments, control & on-off valves, DCS/ESD systems, F&G systems, liquid & gas analysers, Gas Chromatographs, condition monitoring systems, etc.
Specialized expertise in developing calculations for SIS loops, orifice sizing, control valve sizing, thermowell wake frequency, etc.
Expert knowledge of offshore installation techniques on brownfield projects on live facilities
Strong technical background in Instrument Engineering (with knowledge of the other discipline)
Working knowledge codes and standards
Expertise in preparation of Instrument Installation details, Junction Box wiring, Instrument Interconnection drawings,
instrument Cable Schedule, Safety grounding layout, Instrument Loop drawings and Material calculation (MTO), datasheets/ specifications of various instruments
Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills in the Instrumentation & Control discipline, and able to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to WOOD and its clients
Specialized expertise of the fundamental requirements of the Instrumentation & Control discipline, and the basic requirements of other disciplines
A thorough knowledge of codes, standards and practice applicable to the design and installation of instruments (eg API, ISA, ANSI, AGA, ISO and IEC codes etc.)
Specialized expertise of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements
Skills / Qualifications:
Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation/Electronics Engineering from an accredited university
Minimum 15 years Instrumentation & Control engineering experience in oil and gas for offshore and onshore projects
Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in the same or similar industry, including experience in multi-disciplinary projects and teams
Good knowledge of discipline design/engineering with sufficient experience in different discipline areas
