As a Lead Design Engineer, you are responsible to:
Act as a technical liaison with Aircraft, Engines and/or Component Manufacturers and internal stakeholders.
Provide appropriate technical support and expertise in the disruption scenarios including the handling of technical/AOG, troubleshooting, aircraft faults/defects.
To develop, design and integrate engineering solutions to support aircraft mechanical systems modification. Modification include but not limited to systems upgrade such as Air Conditioning, Oxygen, Pneumatic, Water/Waste, Fuel, Hydraulic, Landing Gears systems on Airbus or Boeing fleets.
Note:
The role requires to work in an operational environment where access to the aircraft (i.e cargo compartments, wheel well area, wing, fuselage, crown area, empennage, engines, cabin, etc.) is required.
The role requires to be on a roster call 24/7.
Accountabilities
To provide clear, effective, concise, and technically accurate solutions (trouble shooting, major/minor repairs solution, dispensations, and concessions) for defects arising from maintenance or per customer request.
Evaluate aircraft mechanical systems, components/parts damages and provide solutions for discrepancies that are beyond the applicable manual limitation.
Analyse defect reports to establish root cause.
Submit a comprehensive defect report with a repair/deviation proposal to the manufacturer to obtain approval.
Ensure that the technical solutions (repairs/deviations) are developed and approved in accordance with the organization's procedures and comply to the applicable regulation privileges of P145 or within the scope of P21J DOA.
Evaluate the use of alternative tooling.
Provide stage instruction for customer modification (SB, VSB, STC, etc) request.
Knowledge in certification requirements of EASA Part 21J and the relevant sections of airworthiness requirements.
Review and understanding customer work request and realizing it into a design work that can be implemented on the aircraft taking into consideration all relevant certification requirements as applicable to the aircraft type.
Initiate engineering authorization to perform minor and major mechanical systems repair and modifications on aircraft.
Experience in compliance demonstration and compliance verification process with relevance to all airworthiness aspects (CS/JAR/FAR, OSD, affected publications/ICA, latest regulations).
Initiate plans and develop specifications involving basic design data, technical modifications and installations, writing modifications procedures in the areas of aircraft mechanical systems, Air Conditioning, Oxygen, Pneumatic, Water/Waste, Fuel, Hydraulic, and Landing Gears systems.
Prepare technical drawings (such as mechanical diagrams, ducts/pipes/hoses installations and repairs) as required.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers during design phase and selection of product.
Education & Experience
B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or Equivalent.
Minimum of 10 years in related aircraft mechanical systems engineering (Part 145, Part M and Part 21)
Knowledgeable in ATA sections related to aircraft Mechanical System - A/C Type Level 3 training preferred.
Existing or previous Compliance Verification Engineer approval is an added advantage.
Strong background and skills in aircraft repairs, modification, retrofit development, trouble shooting and AOG support
Experience with OEM, Airline or MRO with DOA approval with Major or Minor privilege.
Experience in Developing, designing and integrating engineering solutions to support aircraft mechanical modification.
Good writing and communication skills.
