Job Description

We are hiring a Landscape Engineer for a short-term project in Qatar. The selected candidate will oversee and inspect soft landscape and irrigation maintenance activities, supervise project staff, coordinate with contractors, ensure compliance with project specifications, prepare reports, manage preventive maintenance plans, and support contract and commercial matters. Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in agriculture or horticulture and have a minimum of 7 years' experience in landscape or construction project maintenance.

Nature and Scope of Position / Responsibilities

Conduct routine inspections of all soft landscape areas, irrigation networks, related activities, and sports facilities, and prepare snag reports. Demonstrate strong knowledge of soft landscape maintenance, including cutting/mowing grass, turf care, planting flowers, weed removal, edging, mulching, fertilizing, pruning, soil tilling, irrigation systems, insecticide/pesticide application, waste removal, and equipment handling. Monitor the performance of supervisors, technicians, and other staff assigned to the project, and take corrective actions to improve efficiency and workmanship quality when required. Inspect maintenance works to ensure all procedures and materials comply with project specifications, contract documents, and work instructions. Develop and oversee the implementation of the preventive maintenance plan. Plan and follow up on the resolution of corrective maintenance requests and complaints. Coordinate with other landscape contractors to schedule activities, track progress, and take corrective actions when necessary. Maintain detailed project documentation and ensure updated copies, including "as-built" drawings, are provided to the Archives and Mail Unit at the appropriate project stage or upon completion. Prepare maintenance and project progress reports, including backlog, service levels, trends, and recommendations, and discuss findings with the Head of the Maintenance Section. Ensure that all facilities master data and maintenance-related information are accurately updated in QU's asset/facilities management system. Assist in preparing pre-contract documents such as preliminary estimates, cost plans, Bills of Quantities, and tender documents for various disciplines (Civil, MEP, Systems, etc.). Provide advice to project staff on commercial and contract matters, including reviewing and drafting contract correspondence. Perform quantity take-offs for certifying progress claims and variations. Maintain records of all maintenance tasks received through QU representative engineers, including complaints and preventive maintenance work. Prepare maintenance work reports detailing progress, backlog, service levels, trends, and recommendations, and discuss them with the Head of Civil & Projects Section. Ensure safe usage, cleanliness, and proper maintenance of landscape tools, vehicles, and equipment. Ensure compliance with QU's security and safety guidelines, and assist the Head of Security and Safety in preparing incident reports when required. Maintain confidentiality of all information at all times. Perform other duties as required by the Operations & Maintenance Engineers of QU.

Experience and Education

Bachelor's degree in Agriculture with a specialization in horticulture, agronomy, plant protection, or a related field from a recognized university or college. Minimum of 7 years' experience in construction projects and/or soft landscape maintenance within a university or maintenance services organization. Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, internet research, data management, and professionally formatted report preparation.
