Kitchen Steward

Position Summary:

The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, dishwashing area, and related equipment. The role ensures that all kitchen utensils, cookware, and service items are cleaned and sanitized according to company standards. The steward also supports kitchen operations by maintaining proper storage of cleaning supplies, assisting with waste disposal, and ensuring a safe working environment for the culinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

Clean and sanitize all kitchen utensils, cooking equipment, and service ware. Ensure cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, and work areas at all times. Operate dishwashing machines and handle manual cleaning when required. Properly segregate and dispose of kitchen waste, following company and safety guidelines. Ensure that all cleaning equipment is used safely and maintained in good condition. Assist in receiving, unpacking, and storing kitchen supplies when required. Follow all hygiene, sanitation, and safety procedures in line with HACCP standards. Report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the Stewarding Supervisor. Support the culinary team by providing clean tools and equipment promptly. Maintain high standards of cleanliness in back-of-house operations at all times.

Qualifications and Skills:

Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward or in a similar role (preferred). Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures. Strong attention to detail and commitment to hygiene. Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen environment. Team-oriented attitude with willingness to support chefs and colleagues. Physically fit and able to lift, carry, and stand for extended periods.
