We are seeking an experienced and passionate Junior Agriculture Engineer to join our team for our garden center . As a key member of our horticulture team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health, quality, and well-being of all plants at our garden center. Key Responsibilities:
Plant Health Management:
Develop and implement comprehensive plant health management plans to ensure the health and well-being of all plants at the garden center, including diagnosing and treating plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
Nursery Operations:
Oversee daily nursery operations, including plant propagation, pruning, and fertilization, to ensure efficient and effective production of high-quality plants.
Garden Center Management:
Manage the garden center, including maintaining a clean and organized store environment, ensuring adequate inventory levels.
Quality Control:
Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure all plants meet our high standards, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Staff Supervision:
Supervise and train staff on plant care and handling procedures, providing guidance and support to ensure a high level of performance.
Inventory Management:
Manage inventory levels, track plant orders, and coordinate with our inventory team.
Pest and Disease Management:
Develop and implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to minimize the use of chemical pesticides and maintain a healthy ecosystem.
Soil and Fertilizer Management:
Develop and implement soil and fertilizer management plans to optimize plant growth and minimize environmental impact.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of plant inventory, sales, and maintenance activities, and analyze data to inform management decisions.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Experience:
5+ years of experience managing a nursery or garden center, with a proven track record of success in plant health management and nursery operations.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of plant identification, diagnosis, and treatment.
Experience with plant propagation, pruning, and fertilization.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Familiarity with integrated pest management (IPM) principles and practices.
Experience with inventory management and supply chain logistics.
Certifications:
Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional (CNLP) or Certified Horticulture Professional (CHP) certification is an asset.
