What Does an IT Support Specialist Do?
As an IT Support Specialist, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day technical support to end-users, troubleshooting IT issues, maintaining hardware and software systems, and ensuring security protocols are followed. You will also support system performance monitoring and document helpdesk processes while staying ahead of new IT support trends.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Provide on-site and remote technical support to users across the organization
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues
- Monitor system performance and maintain databases, servers, and workstations
- Use helpdesk tools like Freshservice and SysAid to track support tickets and responses
- Train end-users and provide documentation for IT procedures and tools
- Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, applications, and networks
- Ensure timely updates of system security patches and antivirus protocols
- Document support processes and maintain performance metrics reports
- Keep up with IT trends and suggest upgrades and improvements as needed
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve IT efficiency and user satisfaction
What Skills Are Needed for This Role?
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on IT support experience in a corporate environment
- Proven track record in managing helpdesk platforms like Freshservice, SysAid, or similar
- Strong background in database maintenance, system troubleshooting, and network administration
Technical Skills:
- Excellent knowledge of operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Proficient in IT security practices and data backup systems
- Ability to manage and monitor servers, printers, and peripheral equipment
- Strong grasp of cloud-based collaboration tools and enterprise IT systems
Soft Skills:
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to train non-technical users and explain technical concepts clearly
- Self-driven, resourceful, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
