Reading Technical Documentation:

Interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine the precise requirements and scope of insulation work.

Material Selection and Preparation:

Selecting appropriate insulation materials (e.g., mineral wool, fiberglass, foam glass, calcium silicate) and preparing surfaces for application by brushing on adhesives or performing necessary cleaning.

Measuring, Cutting, and Fitting:

Accurately measuring, cutting, shaping, and fitting insulation materials around complex obstructions like valves, pumps, and manifolds using specialized hand and power tools.

Installation:

Applying and securing insulation using methods such as wiring, strapping, taping, bonding, or using industrial staples.

Cladding/Jacketing:

Installing protective outer layers, often aluminum or other sheet metal jacketing, to weatherproof the insulation and provide mechanical protection. This involves fabricating simple sheet metal parts to fit.

Sealing and Finishing:

Sealing joints and seams using tapes, mastic, or other finishing materials to create vapor barriers, prevent moisture accumulation, and ensure weatherproofing.
