Job Summary:
The Instrument Fitter (Tray Work) is responsible for the installation, assembly, and maintenance of cable trays, conduits, and supports used in instrumentation and control systems. This role involves working with various tools and equipment to ensure proper routing and securing of cables in industrial settings such as oil & gas, petrochemical, power plants, and manufacturing facilities.
Key Responsibilities:

• Installation & Fabrication:
• Measure, cut, bend, and install cable trays, supports, and conduits according to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Assemble and secure cable tray systems (ladder-type, perforated, solid-bottom) using appropriate hardware.
• Install supports, hangers, and clamps to ensure proper cable tray alignment and stability.
• Alignment & Layout:
• Follow blueprints, schematics, and isometric drawings to determine routing paths.
• Ensure proper spacing, elevation, and alignment of cable trays as per design requirements.
• Work with other trades (electricians, pipefitters, welders) to coordinate installations.
• Material Handling & Safety:
• Transport, lift, and position cable trays and related materials using hand tools, hoists, or forklifts.
• Adhere to workplace safety regulations (OSHA, company policies) and use PPE (hard hats, gloves, harnesses, etc.).
• Identify and report potential hazards or defects in materials/installations.
• Quality Control & Compliance:
• Inspect installed cable trays for structural integrity and compliance with industry standards (NEC, ANSI, IEC).
• Ensure corrosion-resistant materials are used in appropriate environments (e.g., stainless steel trays in chemical plants).
• Maintenance & Repairs:
• Perform modifications or repairs to existing cable tray systems as needed.
• Assist in troubleshooting and rectifying issues related to cable management.

• Education & Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical certification in instrumentation, electrical, or related field (preferred).
• 2+ years of experience in cable tray installation, instrumentation, or industrial construction.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in using hand/power tools (drills, grinders, saws, torque wrenches).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and schematics.
• Knowledge of industry standards (NEC, ISA, ANSI) for cable tray installations.
• Physical Requirements:
• Capable of working at heights (scaffolding, ladders) and in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift heavy materials (50+ lbs) and stand for extended periods.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Team player with good communication skills.
• Willingness to work overtime or shifts as required.

• Industrial sites (refineries, plants, construction zones) with exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
• May require travel to different job sites.
