The Role:


The Legal, Legacy and Governance team\xe2\x80\x99s mission is to use the law to overcome poverty and suffering, and to meet Oxfam GB\xe2\x80\x99s business needs both in UK and across our 48 programme countries. The legal, legacy and governance teamwork alongside lawyers and governance professionals across the global Oxfam confederation to ensure a coherent, consistent approach to achieve high standards of accountability, compliance and transparency.

What we are looking for:


We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a candidate who cares about Oxfam\'s mission to end poverty and is personally aligned to our feminist principles and values of empowerment, accountability and inclusion in all you do.
An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:
  • Qualified Lawyer with minimum of 4 years Post Qualification Experience
  • Lived experience of at least one of the countries in MENA where Oxfam works[1]
  • Fluent written and spoken Arabic.
  • Experience in International Humanitarian Law/disaster law issues, and some experience of working within or using Disaster Law and or IHL within humanitarian settings to support organisations to achieve their goals, and some in advising organisations on their internal business needs, and some experience, but the balance may vary across candidates. Candidates need to have some experience advising either in-house or private practice.
  • Experience of advising on a range of legal issues including contracts, employment and data privacy and responding to legal claims.
  • Self-management including ability to prioritise own workload and work independently and commitment to meet deadlines.
  • Fluent spoken and written English Language, can be as second language.

Highly Desirable (experience within MENA region)
  • Experience of providing legal advice for a regulated and/or not for profit organisation and applicable laws.
  • Experience of advising on campaigning and civil space legal issues.
  • Experience of advising on intellectual property.
