HSE Lead - Basra

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Lead to oversee the safety and environmental compliance aspects of a significant waste management contract for one of our key clients in Iraq. As the HSE Lead, you will work closely with project teams, client representatives and regulatory authorities to ensure that all waste management activities are carried out safely and in full compliance with relevant HSE regulations and guidelines.

Your main responsibilities will be as follows:
  • Working with the Project Manager, develop, implement and continuously improve the HSE strategy for the waste management contract in alignment with national and international standards and industry best practices
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all local Iraqi and international HSE regulations, standards, and permits relevant to waste management operations
  • Act as a safety leader promoting the desired safety culture on site at all times and the use of Stop Work Authority by all personnel.
  • Ensure full compliance with RSK safe working practices and Golden Rules
  • Ensure that all work is executed safely at client work sites and as appropriate in accordance with the client\xe2\x80\x99s safe working practices, project HSE Plan and Permit to Work system
  • Ensure correct use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is used on site at all times by all personnel
  • Ensure that all HSE incidents, accidents or near misses are identified and reported promptly to senior management
  • Conduct routine safety meetings on site and ensure that lessons learnt from HSE related incidents are discussed in toolbox talks and safety stand downs
  • Provide HSE training and support to the staff to develop their skillsets and assist them to continually improve the safety culture and HSE standards on the project
The successful candidate will have:
  • Relevant Degree in Waste Management, Environmental Engineering/Science, Health and Safety Management or related field
  • NEBOSH Diploma or certificate in occupational health and safety, environmental science or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the HSE field, preferably gained within the oil and gas or waste management industry
  • Knowledge of HSE risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation techniques (root cause analysis) and safety management systems
  • Ability to conduct inspections, audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Experience in delivering HSE training and toolbox talks to enhance safety awareness and knowledge.
  • Good communication skills and computer literacy
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Arabic
Salary and benefits:
  • This is a full-time resident position in Iraq (6 day working week) with a salary commensurate with experience.
