Hostess / Host / Greeter
Position: Host/Hostess
Department: Front of House
Position Overview
The Host/Hostess is the first and last point of contact for our guests, setting the tone for the entire dining experience. You are responsible for warmly welcoming guests, efficiently managing seating and waitlists, and ensuring a smooth flow of service. Your positive attitude, organizational skills, and ability to multitask are essential to our restaurant's success.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Service & Hospitality:

  • Greet all guests with a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor immediately upon arrival.
  • Manage the reservation system (e.g., OpenTable, Resy) and walk-in guests effectively.
  • Escort guests to their tables, present menus, and inform them of their server's name.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, provide basic information, and take reservations or to-go orders.
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
Seating & Floor Plan Management:
  • Maintain an accurate and organized seating chart and waitlist.
  • Balance seating across server sections to ensure even workflow and excellent service.
  • Monitor table turnover and communicate with servers and bussers to keep the dining room flowing.
  • Accommodate special guest requests (e.g., anniversaries, high chairs, booth preferences) when possible.
Operational Excellence:
  • Keep the host stand, lobby, and menu storage clean, organized, and presentable.
  • Assist in maintaining restroom cleanliness and stock.
  • Provide accurate wait times and manage guest expectations during busy periods.
  • Handle guest complaints or concerns with patience and escalate to management when necessary.
  • Assist with side work such as rolling silverware, refilling condiments, or pre-setting tables.
Teamwork:
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with servers, bussers, and management.
  • Support other team members during peak times to ensure a seamless guest experience.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in a hospitality, customer service, or restaurant role.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and positive under pressure.
  • Basic math skills for handling reservations and estimating wait times.
  • Professional appearance and grooming.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
