What Does a Health and Safety Officer Do?
As a Health and Safety Officer, your responsibility is to ensure that all areas of the hotel comply with safety standards, health regulations, and emergency preparedness protocols. You\'ll support training initiatives, investigate incidents, and foster a culture of safety across departments.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Keep the Quality Manager updated on all health and safety matters
- Liaise with management and staff to support workplace safety practices
- Coordinate with local authorities, fire safety, and law enforcement
- Conduct workplace inspections and implement corrective actions
- Investigate incidents, injuries, and safety-related complaints
- Participate in health and safety committee activities and performance monitoring
- Deliver regular fire safety training and live drills for staff
- Review and update emergency procedures and documentation
- Ensure readiness for emergencies and compliance with operational standards
- Close and report high-hazard areas to relevant leadership and departments
- Document concerns noted in duty manager logs and ensure appropriate action
- Contribute to the ongoing training of new and existing staff in safety protocols
What Skills Are Needed for a Health and Safety Officer in Abu Dhabi?
Education:
- University degree in a related field
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in a similar role in a 5-star hotel, preferably in the UAE
Certifications and Skills:
- NEBOSH IGC certification
- ADVETI Health & Safety practitioner course qualification (Abu Dhabi)
- ISO 45001:2018 Internal Auditor qualification
- IOSH TECH membership eligibility
- Valid first aid certification (8 hours including CPR)
- Strong team management and communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and safety documentation
