POSITION

HEAD SEAMSTRESS

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Seamstress will be responsible for constructing, altering, repairing, or modifying garments for family/client and staff requested by the HOD\xe2\x80\x99s and guest based on their specifications, needs, and preferences. At times she might be required to take clients measurements, assist in fabric selection, and arrange fittings to determine whether additional adjustments are needed. The head seamstress will manage the staff uniform inventory and inform their manager when stocks are low. The head seamstress will manage the tailoring team, they should be able to prioritize work orders as they come in.

QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATION / LICENSES

Certificate / Diploma in fashion
Degree in fashion design

EXPERIENCE

2 years with proven experience working as a seamstress
Minimum two years experience managing staff
Proven sewing experience
Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques

KEY SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE

Ability to lead a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office and effective communication skills
Managing the day-to-day activities of the team
Compiles relevant data and reports on daily activity.
Inspires and motivates the seamstresses to achieve organizational goals. This involves creating a positive work environment, recognizing achievements, and providing encouragement.
Ensures that seamstresses receive necessary training to enhance their abilities.
Collaborates with management to define clear objectives for the team. These goals may include production targets, quality standards, or efficiency improvements.
Offering guidance, mentoring, and coaching to individual seamstresses helps them develop their skills and overcome challenges.
Tracks productivity, quality, and adherence to deadlines. Constructive feedback is provided to help improve performance.
Experience with pattern making,
Manages resources, inventory, ordering
Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques.
Ability to work under time constraints
The ability to safely use different types of sewing machines,
Assigning specific tasks to individual team members by the skills and expertise as an essential responsibility.
Excellent organisational, problem solving and time management skills.
Good hand-eye coordination
