Job Description

The

Head of Learning Support Assistants

is responsible for leading, training, and supervising the team of LSAs to ensure high-quality support for students with special educational needs (SEN) within mainstream and special education settings. This role bridges communication between teachers, therapists, and LSAs, ensuring effective implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior support plans, and classroom accommodations.

Key Responsibilities:



Leadership & Supervision



Lead, mentor, and supervise the team of LSAs, providing ongoing coaching and performance feedback. Schedule LSA duties and ensure appropriate allocation of staff to students and classrooms. Conduct regular team meetings to review challenges, share best practices, and monitor progress.

Training & Development



Provide initial and ongoing training for LSAs in areas such as behaviour management, communication strategies, and inclusive classroom practices. Ensure LSAs understand how to support students with diverse needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, learning disabilities). Organize workshops in collaboration with therapists and teachers.

Student Support & Inclusion



Ensure LSAs are effectively supporting students in line with IEP goals and classroom expectations. Monitor the quality of support provided, ensuring independence and dignity of students is promoted. Collaborate with teachers to adapt strategies for classroom engagement.

Administrative & Communication



Act as the main point of contact for LSAs, ensuring smooth communication with teachers, therapists, and school leadership. Document and report on LSA performance and student progress as needed. Assist in recruitment and onboarding of new LSAs.

Qualifications and Skills:



Qualifications & Experience



Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field (Master's preferred). Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in special education, inclusion support, or a related role. Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff is highly desirable. Strong understanding of inclusive education practices, SEN strategies, and behaviour management.
