A gym cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within a fitness facility.
Core responsibilities
Cleaning and sanitation:
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust all floors and surfaces. Sanitize and disinfect high-touch areas like door handles, countertops, and equipment. Clean and stock restrooms and locker rooms, including showers and changing areas.
Equipment maintenance:
Routinely clean and disinfect all gym equipment, such as treadmills, weights, and machines. Conduct basic inspections to ensure equipment is in good working order and report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
Waste management:
Empty trash and recycling bins, replacing liners as needed.
Restocking supplies:
Restock cleaning supplies and replenish items like paper towels, soap, and toilet paper in restrooms and other areas.
Safety and compliance:
Follow all health, safety, and hygiene protocols, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals and machinery. Report any safety hazards or breaches of policy to management.
Member interaction:
Ensure a welcoming environment for gym members by being friendly and professional. Respond to member requests or feedback and report any complaints or compliments to management.
Skills and qualifications
Previous cleaning or janitorial experience is often required, preferably in a gym or similar environment.
Ability to work independently and efficiently.
Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.
Physically fit and able to be on your feet for extended periods.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and safety procedures.
Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with both staff and members.
