Perform high-quality welds using GTAW, SMAW, and sometimes other processes like GMAW on various metals.
Interpreting plans:
Read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and welding procedures (WPS) to understand project requirements.
Equipment operation:
Set up, operate, and maintain welding and cutting equipment, including grinders and sanders, and ensure all necessary safety equipment (PPE) is used.
Quality assurance:
Inspect welds for accuracy and quality control, and perform first-article inspections to verify dimensions and specifications.
Maintenance:
Keep the work area clean and organized, and perform routine maintenance on welding equipment.
Collaboration:
Work with other team members, supervisors, and QA/QC personnel to meet production goals and resolve issues.
Documentation:
Track and document job status and other required information accurately.
Skills and requirements
Experience with both GTAW and SMAW welding techniques is essential.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding specifications accurately.
Strong understanding of welding safety protocols.
Physical fitness to handle the demands of the job, including standing, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
Knowledge of welding equipment and how to maintain and troubleshoot it.
Good communication skills to interact with supervisors and other team members.
Valid welder certification is often a requirement.
