Generator Technician
to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Generator Technician to perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on a wide range of standby and prime power generator sets. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver with a strong electrical and mechanical background, dedicated to ensuring the reliability and optimal performance of our clients' critical power systems.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance:
Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on diesel, gaseous, and natural gas generator sets in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
Diagnostics & Repair:
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex electrical, mechanical, and engine-related issues on generators, transfer switches, and associated control systems.
Emergency Service:
Respond to emergency service calls for generator failures, performing efficient and effective repairs under pressure to minimize client downtime.
Installation & Commissioning:
Assist with the installation, startup, and commissioning of new generator systems, including load bank testing to verify performance.
System Testing:
Conduct routine operational tests and exercise generators to ensure readiness and identify potential problems.
Documentation:
Complete detailed and accurate service reports, maintenance checklists, parts requests, and timecards in a timely manner.
Customer Interaction:
Provide clear explanations of work performed, maintenance recommendations, and technical information to customers in a professional manner.
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations at all times. Maintain a clean and organized work vehicle and job site.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum of [2-5] years of hands-on experience servicing and maintaining industrial generators.
Strong understanding of electrical systems (AC/DC power), engine mechanics, and control circuits.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and climb ladders.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
Preferred:
Relevant technical certification or Associate's degree in a related field (e.g., Electrical Technology, Diesel Mechanics).
Experience with switchgear and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
EPA 608 Certification for refrigerant handling.
Skills & Competencies
Strong Troubleshooting Acumen: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose complex issues.
Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of diesel/gas engine fundamentals, fuel systems, and voltage regulation.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous in performing maintenance and documenting work.
Customer Service: Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
Independence & Teamwork: Ability to work autonomously in the field while also collaborating effectively with a team.
Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and committed to quality workmanship.
Working Conditions
This is a field-based role requiring travel to various client sites within the [region/state].
Exposure to noise, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
May require on-call rotation for nights, weekends, and holidays to support emergency service.
