Job Responsibilities

Using specialized computer programs to recover data from damaged hard drives or other electronic devices
Conducting tests to determine whether a computer system may have been compromised by hackers or other threats
Analyzing data from computer systems to identify security vulnerabilities or possible criminal activity
Gathering evidence by photographing crime scenes or accident sites, interviewing witnesses, and collecting documents related to cases
Preserving computer-based evidence by copying it onto another device or removing it from the computer entirely
Performing tests on computer hardware such as RAM, ROM, hard drives, and processors to identify possible problems with the system
Analyzing data found on computers to determine who created it and when it was created
Gathering forensic data from mobile devices such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops using specialized equipment
Taking part in legal proceedings such as depositions, trials, and hearings to present findings in the form of testimony or written reports
