Job Description

Purpose:
Supervises the operational and rig site activities relevant to Drilling and Completion fluids, in compliance with the
approved programs and budget.

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Operations, Logistic & Reporting:
  • Follow up daily operations and ensure that fluid, cement, SCE & waste management operations are conducted safety an as per programmed.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and recommend corrective actions. Be able to manage and apply corrective measures in case of mud contamination, unstable mud properties, undesired shale formation reactions.
  • Be aware of cement slurry contamination issues, and be able to apply preventive measures to avoid operational issues
  • Optimize the application of fluids, cement, and waste management services at the field.
  • Coordinate actions between the different parties involved (rig team, service contractors, vessels, logistic base team), in order to ensure that the best procedures are followed.
  • Follow up chemicals’ inventories, daily consumption of the chemicals and organize deliveries to the rig in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that Fluids & Cement programs and procedures are available, understood and adhered to by personnel involved
  • Report on daily basis ongoing operations and following plans to Fluids Superintendent and Drilling Superintendent, highlighting any restriction in fulfilling the objectives with respect to the drilling operations and assist the Drilling Supervisor to optimize performance
  • Direct application of drilling fluids, cementing, SCE & waste management engineering studies.
  • Daily usage of drilling fluids and cementing simulations software
  • Provide detailed analysis of fluid, cement & waste management related operations, aiming to save and transmit the experience gained
  • Be able to operate with different drilling fluids typologies, including but not limited to: WBM, HPWBM, HT drilling fluids systems, NADF, DIF, aerated mud. Be able to manage and run drilling operations with high density drilling fluids in HPHT environments.
  • Provide field supervision and technical assistance to manage drilling fluids and cementing operations in sour drilling environments (with CO2 and H2S).
  • Be familiar with drilling fluids and cementing equipment and tools like, but not limited to: casing centralizers, cementing heads, plugs and darts, multistage tools, vacuum unit, mud coolers, shearing units, mixing hoppers, mud pumps, external casing packers.
  • Be able to operate with different cement slurries typologies, including but not limited to: light weight systems, high density slurry, CO2 resistant slurry, elastic slurry, HT slurry additives. Be able to understand retarders functions, limitations and characteristics.
  • Ensure confirmation lab tests of cement slurries are performed in a timely manner before cementing operations and that mixing operations are conducted as per program.
  • Be aware and understand drilling practices and equipment like: blind drilling, Managed Pressure Drilling and Cementing (MPD and MPC), Mud Line Suspension (MLS), Continuous Circulation Devices (ECD valves), Mud Cooler.
  • Be reactive and provide support in case of severe/total losses situations, by correctly managing drilling fluids volume, mixing operations, LCM pills and cement plugs.
  • Be familiar with thixotropic systems to cure losses, as well as service contractors’ proprietary solutions.
  • Understand and apply the concept of dual slurry approach.
  • Understand and provide technical support in cementing operations of conventional and expandable liner hangers.
  • Check and review daily reports, phase report & final recap prepared by fluid, cement & waste management phase and final recaps for each service and compile all summaries in a comprehensive end of well report.
  • Perform quality assurance of mud and cement systems, stock inventory and consumption
  • Manage the logistics of supply vessel, coordinating all parties involved (base marine coordinator, service contractors and drilling team) in order to organize the delivery of drilling fluids, brine, bulk material and chemicals.
  • Keep track of containers and mini-containers for the delivery of chemicals and additives
  • Be aware and be familiar with all the aspects of drilling fluids and cementing contracts (terms and conditions, price structure, price applicability, technical specifications, technical requirements, etc.)
  • Review Drilling fluids and cement laboratory analyses
  • Ensure permanent quality of data reporting (WELLVIEW and others).
  • Provide daily fluids report containing all relevant information concerning mud and cement stock, chemicals and additives, vessels information, bulk plants and liquid mud plant
  • Follow-up and coordinate bulk plants and liquid mud plants operations, ensuring bulk material is timely delivered and that vessels are timely filled up, as well as brine/mud are timely mixed and transferred to the boats.
  • In case of need, be able to coordinate and follow-up bulk plants and liquid mud plants installation process, as well as commissioning.
  • Review and report analyses of any equipment failure or non-conformance services
  • Monitor and review the performance of Solid control equipment and optimize this SCE to maximize solid removal and report SCE efficiency.
  • Interact and coordinate service contractors’ onshore projects engineer.
  • Ensure that job tickets and invoicing match and comply with ongoing contracts and achieved jobs. Sign field tickets and report them to Fluids/Drilling Superintendent.
  • Assist in the motivation and training of field personnel to meet desired standards.
  • Willing to participate in crisis response training and to assist during emergency response situations if required.
HSE:
  • Ensure the respect of affiliate HSE & Environmental policies and Company rules
  • Contribute to the full implementation of HSE & Environmental goals and objectives
  • Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with all relevant Statutory and Company HSE standards
  • Ensure that Company and Contractor HSE standards are respected by the individuals executing the fluids, cement, waste management and other relevant contracts.
  • Check and verify compliance of MSDS of chemical additives.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Fluent Knowledge of English
  • Basic Knowledge of the local language preferred
  • 5 years of Oil & Gas Industry experience.
