The Fitout Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for interior fitout projects, including the installation of partitions, flooring, ceilings, fixtures, and finishes. The estimator will work closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to assess the scope of the project, assess costs, and provide competitive estimates to ensure projects are financially viable.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for fitout projects, including materials, labor, and other associated costs.
Project Scope Assessment: Review project plans and blueprints to understand the full scope of the fitout work and make detailed estimates.
Site Visits: Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather data necessary for preparing precise estimates.
Material & Labor Quantities: Calculate quantities and prices for materials and labor based on the project specifications and market rates.
Tender Preparation: Prepare and submit tender documents for projects, ensuring all aspects of the fitout are accounted for and meet client specifications.
Collaboration: Work closely with architects, designers, and project managers to ensure that the project is cost-effective while meeting design requirements.
Negotiations: Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to negotiate the best prices for materials and services.
Risk Analysis: Identify and evaluate potential risks to the budget and schedule, and propose solutions to mitigate those risks.
Budget Control: Monitor and review project costs throughout the lifecycle to ensure the project stays within budget and on schedule.
Cost Reports: Prepare detailed reports outlining the costs and estimates, including any variations, and present these to clients or senior management.
Contractor Coordination: Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure they adhere to the specifications and cost expectations of the fitout.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: Proven experience in estimating for commercial or residential fitout projects, including working knowledge of construction processes and materials.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of architectural drawings, plans, and specifications.
Software Proficiency: Experience with cost estimating software (e.g., Buildsoft, CostX, or similar tools).
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure all cost factors are accounted for accurately.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for preparing reports and liaising with clients, suppliers, and contractors.
Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Qualifications: A degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is often required.
Analytical Skills: Strong numerical and analytical skills to assess project costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Working Conditions:
Location: Typically based in an office environment, but frequent site visits are required.
Hours: Full-time, with some flexibility based on project deadlines and work requirements.

With experience, a Fitout Estimator can advance to senior estimating roles, project management, or even move into a director-level position, managing teams of estimators or overseeing large-scale fitout projects.
