The Firefighter is responsible for protecting life, property, and the environment through firefighting, emergency medical response, rescue operations, and fire prevention activities. This role requires strong physical fitness, quick decision-making, teamwork, and a commitment to serving the community during emergency and non-emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Emergency Response
Respond promptly to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and rescue calls.
Suppress fires using appropriate firefighting techniques and equipment.
Conduct search-and-rescue operations to locate and assist victims.
Provide basic life support (BLS) and first aid as needed.
Drive and operate firefighting and emergency vehicles when assigned.
2. Fire Prevention & Safety
Inspect buildings, hydrants, and fire protection systems for code compliance.
Educate the public on fire safety, prevention methods, and emergency preparedness.
Participate in community outreach programs, drills, and demonstrations.
3. Equipment & Station Maintenance
Maintain firefighting tools, protective gear, and emergency apparatus.
Ensure readiness and proper functioning of equipment through routine inspections.
Perform daily housekeeping tasks at the fire station.
4. Training & Professional Development
Participate in ongoing training in firefighting techniques, EMS, hazardous materials handling, and rescue operations.
Maintain certifications required by local/state regulations.
Attend departmental meetings, drills, and continuing education sessions.
5. Reporting & Documentation
Complete incident reports, equipment logs, and medical documentation accurately.
Assist with post-incident analysis and reporting as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Firefighter certification (Firefighter I/II depending on jurisdiction).
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification preferred/required.
Previous firefighting experience is an advantage but not mandatory (based on department needs).

Mechanical aptitude for operating and maintaining equipment.

Work Conditions
Shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Exposure to fire, smoke, hazardous substances, and extreme weather.
On-call during emergencies.
Requires wearing protective gear and SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus).
