Staff Reporting to Position: Farm Staff, Assistant Farm Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION
The position Of Farm Manager is primarily responsible for achieving maximum productivity and livability from farms and ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe manner and adheres to standards and systems of the organization. The process includes shed set-up. chick placement. grow out. pick up and cleanout operations on the farm.
The farm Manager will have direct working relationships with the cleanout crew, the maintenance staff, farm contractors, other farm staff and relevant livestock clerical staff.
The Farm Manager is also responsible for the implementation and management Of the workplace injury management system on the farm.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The objective of the Farm Manager role is to ensure animal health, welfare and productivity along with training the staff and following safety needs.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years in livestock management, especially poultry industry
Graduate in Agriculture or Veterinary Sciences will be preferred
Knowledge of the poultry livestock industry, with particular reference to hatchery processes
Detailed knowledge of hatchery operations, including animal welfare and the technical aspects of hatching premium quality chicks
Experience in staff supervision and ability to demonstrate sound leadership qualities
Well-developed problem-solving skills related to quality issues with the ability to arrive and
Implement long term preventative actions
Experience in the organization and implementation of training programs
Ability to set and work within budgets, manage costs and cost reporting on a weekly basis
A proven track record in establishing and maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel under their direct control
Responsible for the supervision and staffing of the Hatchery
Responsible for the approval of purchase orders and resulting invoices
Responsible for the counselling of Hatchery staff
Proven animal husbandry skills
Proven personnel management skills
Sound knowledge and understanding of quality standards and Systems. Workplace Health and Safety systems. Understand the responsibility policies and procedures. Environment Management System and Biosecurity
Good understanding of appropriate, serviceable and well-maintain loading and restraining equipment s
Owns responsibility for task completion and have leadership qualities
Genuine concern for the welfare of the stock
Good understanding of how day to day activities could impact on the environment
Capable of having clean, effective and to the point communication and show respect for workmates
Capable of identifying areas of improvement. participates in problem solving teams and co-ordinates problem solving teams in partnership with the Regional Livestock Manager
Reasonably proficient English Language skills to read, write and communicate and should be able to achieve IELTS 5.5 Overall with no band less than 5.
