Fabrication & Welding Supervisor
Job Title: Fabrication & Welding Supervisor (Pipe & Structural)
Reports To: Fabrication Manager / Project Manager
Department: Operations / Fabrication
1. Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Fabrication & Welding Supervisor to lead our pipe and structural fabrication and welding teams. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day activities on the shop floor, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a hands-on leader with extensive technical knowledge and proven supervisory skills in an industrial fabrication environment.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Leadership & Personnel Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of fabricators, fitters, and welders.
  • Schedule work assignments, allocate resources efficiently, and manage team productivity.
  • Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and support the professional development of team members.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and collaborative work environment.
  • Resolve any workforce issues promptly and effectively.
B. Production & Quality Control:
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the entire fabrication process for pipe spools and structural steel components from cutting and fitting to welding and finishing.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and specifications to ensure accurate execution.
  • Ensure all work complies with project specifications, relevant codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, API), and company quality standards.
  • Implement and enforce Quality Control (QC) procedures, including overseeing fit-up inspections and coordinating with QC inspectors for NDE (Non-Destructive Examination).
  • Manage material control, including issuing materials from the warehouse and minimizing waste.
C. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
  • Champion a culture of safety-first, ensuring strict adherence to all company and site-specific HSE policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and job hazard analyses.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and used safely. Promote proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Investigate any incidents, near-misses, or safety violations and implement corrective actions.
D. Planning & Administration:
  • Monitor project timelines and milestones, reporting progress to management.
  • Track labor hours, material usage, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Identify and mitigate potential delays or issues that could impact the project schedule.
  • Complete necessary daily reports, timesheets, and documentation accurately and on time.
E. Pre-Commissioning Support:
  • Coordinate and supervise pre-commissioning activities, which may include hydro-testing, pneumatic testing, cleaning, and preservation of systems.
  • Ensure all pre-commissioning documentation is completed correctly.
3. Qualifications & Experience
Education:
  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Welding, Structural, or related field).
Experience:
  • Option 1: 7+ years of experience in pipe and structural fabrication/welding, with a minimum of 3 years in a Lead position (e.g., Lead Welder, Lead Fitter).
  • Option 2: 5+ years of experience in a similar supervisory role within a heavy industrial environment (e.g., Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Shipbuilding, Heavy Machinery).
Technical Skills:
  • Expert knowledge of pipe and structural fabrication processes, techniques, and materials.
  • In-depth understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) and procedures (WPS/PQR).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex fabrication drawings, isometric drawings, and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME Section IX, B31.3, AWS D1.1, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Physical demands include standing for long periods, walking, bending, and occasional lifting.
  • Use of mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including FR clothing, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots is required.
  • May require overtime or shift work to meet project deadlines.
