The Primary School Teacher assists students in realizing their potential by teaching with compassion and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
I. Responsibilities with students:
A. Content:
Demonstrate a solid grasp of instruction.
Prepare lessons that teach Common Core standards, using approved material and curriculum
B. Instructional Practice:
Develop a caring, engaging classroom environment.
Pre-plan and implement effective lesson plans, setting high expectations using best practices.
Define and communicate instructional goals to students for each lesson and unit.
Plans lessons that reflect:
Common Core Standards.
Relevant instructional objectives.
Formative and summative assessment results.
Maximize student on-task time.
Incorporate reading and writing into all academic areas.
Use technology, when appropriate, to improve instruction.
Present lessons clearly, using accepted standards of verbal, visual and written communication.
Provide student feedback.
C. Differentiating Instruction:
Respect students' developmental abilities.
Regularly provide opportunities for large group, small group and individual interaction.
Seek to understand and teach to the different student learning styles represented in the classroom.
Differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.
D. Classroom Management:
Manage student behavior effectively.
Promote self-discipline and character.
Diminish conditions that could lead to disciplinary problems.
Establish clear parameters for classroom routines and student behavior.
Reinforce student success through public praise and private reprimand.
Avoid public humiliation as a disciplinary tool.
Respond respectfully, yet firmly, in keeping with GWA disciplinary policy, when problems occur.
E. Assessment:
Give sufficient instruction and practice before evaluating performance for grading purposes.
Use a variety of tools to assess progress.
Give appropriate feedback to students.
Support students to develop habits of self-evaluation.
Use assessment results to inform instruction.
II. Responsibilities with Administrators, Peers and Parents:
A. Fulfilling Administrative Expectations:
Contribute to staff meetings.
Prioritize daily attendance.
Collaborate with teams to update school standards, curricula and programs.
Follow the policies and procedures set forth in the Teacher and Parent/Student Handbooks, and other policy manuals.
Follow appropriate lines of authority when addressing issues of concern.
B. Communicating Student Performance:
Keep required records as directed by the administration.
Initiate communication with parents regarding students through periodic mid-term reports, report card grades, conferences, student assignments, test grades, etc.
Give students, parents and administration plenty of advance notice to intervene when students are in danger of academic or behavioral failure.
Show discretion when sharing sensitive student information.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required.
Certification from a government body is preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience are required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated expertise in pedagogical best practices, assessment strategies, and educational technology integration.
Strong communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to analyze data and use evidence-based practices to drive instructional improvement.
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in education.
