Job Description

Wood is currently sourcing for a Vibration Engineer (Static Equipment) to be part of our AIS team in Abu Dhabi for a permanent assignment.

Engineering role within the Wood VDN (Vibration, Dynamics and Noise) Specialist Engineering Group. The primary role is to provide piping vibration consultancy services to oil and gas operators in both the Middle East and across the globe. The primary responsibilities are as follows:

Field Based Elements:

+ Dynamic measurements in support of vibration troubleshooting of piping and static equipment concerns (on- and offshore).

+ Piping surveys to identify piping vibration concerns and devise practical solutions.

+ Liaising with client personnel on site and at all other stages of projects.

Office based elements:

+ Completing Qualitative and Quantitative Energy Institute 'Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue Failure in Process Pipework' vibration screening assessments of process plant.

+ Completing Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV) stage 1, 2 and 3 assessment.

+ Completing general pipe stress analysis tasks (static and dynamic).

+ Designing of anti-vibration piping supports.

+ Completing reportage required for project with minimum oversight from senior colleagues.

+ Managing technical and commercial aspects of small projects from initial proposal, through technical delivery, presentation to client and final invoicing.

+ Assist the rotating equipment team where required and develop competence in rotating machinery.

Business and Industry Experience:

+ Experience (2 years) working in the on- and offshore petrochemical industry. Demonstrable experience of piping and static equipment projects.

Education:

+ Suitable mechanical engineering degree, education and demonstratable CPD.

Technical/Business Skills:

Essential

+ Knowledge and application of piping and static equipment industry standards (i.e. ASME B31.1, B31.3).

+ Knowledge of typical piping components and fabrication methods.

Desirable:

+ Working knowledge of performing vibration, dynamic stress (bonded and friction gauges), dynamic pressure and noise measurements.

+ Site based experience working at petrochemical or process sites.

+ Understanding of process-related, operational and other common excitation sources and able to collect all information relating to these in support of project goals.

+ Working knowledge of piping fatigue assessment and methodologies (e.g. fatigue life assessment, rainflow counting, Palmgren-Miner rule).

+ Working knowledge of Qualitative and Quantitative EI Guideline type Vibration Risk Assessments of process plant (on and offshore).

+ Understanding of the application of various simulation packages used by Wood VDN (FEA, CFD, acoustic, pulsation, surge analysis etc). Specific experience in the use of such packages (e.g. ANSYS, Caesar, PULS/BOSFluids, PipeNET) is desirable.

+ Experience in basic high level coding languages for engineering analysis (e.g. MATLAB, C+, FAMOS).

+ Experience in the design of piping supports and production of fabrication diagrams and welding specifications.

+ Knowledge of associated reciprocating machinery standards (e.g. API 618 and API 674).

Interpersonal Skills:

+ Comfortable (and medically fit) to complete site based work (12 hr shifts, upto 28 days continuous) on- and offshore.

+ Under the direction of the Team Lead demonstrate ability to perform project resource planning and tracking of staff movements and usage on a daily basis in response to changing priorities of clients.

+ Comfortable presenting project results and group competencies to existing and potential clients.

+ Continually seek to develop Wood technical services, procedures, tools and technical resources.

+ Develop leadership skills within small teams in the office and on site as required. These skills include (but are not limited to) motivation, enthusiasm, effective time management, good initiative and planning ability, good communications, excellent technical delivery and an enthusiastic outlook.

+ Understand roles of senior colleagues to allow cover to be provided on short term basis as required (to the limits of individual competency and typically in conjunction with other Principal Engineers and Consultants).
