Engineering Manager

Job Description

The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing all engineering, maintenance, and facility operations of the hotel. They ensure that all building systems, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained at optimal performance, safety, and efficiency. The role combines technical expertise, leadership, and planning to deliver guest satisfaction, regulatory compliance, cost control, and long?term asset value preservation.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational & Maintenance

Oversee

preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance

of all technical systems (MEP: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing; HVAC; elevators & lifts; fire safety; water systems; building management/BMS; lighting; pumps; etc.). Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, back?of?house, public areas, and exterior building envelope to ensure functionality, safety, and aesthetics. Ensure all engineering equipment and systems are operational and that outages are minimized.
Project & Renovation Management

Plan, coordinate, and supervise engineering or refurbishment/renovation projects (guest rooms, public areas, technical systems). Work with consultants, contractors, procurement, and other hotel departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and up to standard. Conduct value engineering and ensure technical specifications are aligned with brand standards and regulatory requirements.
Budgeting, Cost & Resource Management

Prepare and manage the engineering department's annual operating budget and capital expenditure (CAPEX) plans. Monitor costs (labor, materials, spare parts, contractor services), identify cost?saving initiatives, and optimize energy and resource consumption. Ensure effective spare?parts and materials inventory management; ensure vendor management & procurement processes are followed.
Regulatory, Safety & Compliance

Ensure full compliance with local authority regulations (Dubai Municipality, Civil Defense, etc.), health & safety, fire safety, environmental regulations. Develop, implement, and monitor emergency preparedness plans, safety drills, building codes, and maintenance of certification (e.g., for lifts, boilers, fire systems). Maintain records, permits, logs, inspections, test reports in compliance with all statutory requirements.
Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team (technicians, engineers, helpers, contractors). Set performance standards, hold regular appraisals, training & development. Cultivate a culture of safety, accountability, proactive maintenance, and continuous improvement.
Guest/Department Liaison & Service

Respond to guest complaints or requests related to building systems, engineering issues, ensuring prompt resolution with minimum disruption. Coordinate closely with other hotel departments (Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Security etc.) to support their operational needs. Ensure engineering work respects hotel guest experience (e.g. scheduling noisy or disruptive works outside peak/guest hours when possible).
Sustainability & Innovation

Monitor energy, water, gas, fuel consumption; identify opportunities to adopt sustainable technologies, reduce waste, improve efficiency. Track emerging trends in building services, maintenance methods, energy management, and incorporate improvements. Oversee the operation of building automation/BMS systems, where applicable, to optimize performance.
Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Facilities Management, or a related technical field. Minimum

8?12 years' experience

in engineering / facility management in a large hotel or high?end facility, with at least

3?5 years in a supervisory / management role

. Strong technical knowledge of all building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lifts/elevators, fire safety) and building automation/BMS systems. Experience in project management, renovation/refurbishment works, with familiarity of contracting, procurement, and technical drawing / specifications. Sound understanding of Dubai local regulatory environment: building codes, safety codes, authority approvals, fire regulations, etc. Proficient use of maintenance management software / CMMS and tools. Strong leadership, communication, organizational skills. Ability to plan, prioritize, think strategically. Must be able to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent responsibilities, and be available for emergency situations or on?call work.
