Energy Consulting, a part of GE Gas Power, has offices in multiple countries and offers our global clients (external & internal GE) a wide range of solutions across the entire spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. Our Power Systems Engineering team utilizes their deep knowledge of connected power grid planning, design, operation, and life-cycle management, to offer customized solutions to our global clients. Our Power Economics team offers analyses focused on the understanding and the study of the financial and physical operation of the electric power systems including generation and grid planning, system optimization, asset valuation, competitive power markets and energy policy implications. Over 700 entities worldwide use our suite of software tools to assess the economics, performance, and reliability of interconnected power systems. We also offer a full range of education courses through our Power Systems Engineering Course.

As a member of the GE Energy Consulting - Power Economics MEA team, a successful candidate will lead consulting and advisory services across the electric power industry and support other GE business initiatives related to power systems equipment and services.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Conduct economic and/or engineering system studies related to production cost modeling, reliability analysis, power market forecasting, and long-term planning, supply and demand, power market structure (vertical, government owned, ISO) reliability, structure of cost of service, rates, and tariffs, PPA, ancillary services, emissions...
  • Support GE businesses and customers in the areas of wind and solar integration, smart grid optimization, distributed energy resources, energy storage, asset utilization, new product initiatives, and challenges to the utility business model.
  • Perform modeling under economic software related to product cost, expansion planning, stochastic analysis, scenario planning, power market trading, renewables, and transmission modeling for the load flow analysis.
  • Develop, maintain, and apply detailed market simulation models for the energy industry for customer planning and investment objectives, evaluating impacts of structural changes in electricity markets, and identifying growth opportunities for GE.
  • Monitor power markets for rule changes that may affect generation and transmission asset values and advise clients on expected impacts of those rules.
  • Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing written detailed and summary reports and making presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions.
  • Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are essential.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • BS Degree in Engineering, Economics, Computer Science.
  • Knowledge of energy industry and power markets.
  • Significant experience in collecting, querying, and analyzing complex data, and drawing insightful conclusions.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, presentations and emails in English and another language.
  • Able to travel 20% in their work schedule within the region.
Desired Characteristics
  • 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: electric power system modeling, energy market design, operations or policy, and generation/transmission planning.
  • Experience with production cost models (MAPS, PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD), reliability models (MARS), or other power system simulation tools (PSLF, PSS/E).
  • MBA or Master\xe2\x80\x99s/PhD degree in engineering, economics, or computer science.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills suitable for making presentations to internal and external business customers, and for supporting GE executive external communications, an additional Language (Arabic, French) is preferred.
  • Industry reputation published articles and presentations in industry forums (IEEE, CIGRE, etc.) and participation in industry standards working groups.
  • Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, VBA, etc.)
