specializing in CCTV is the technical architect behind a building's surveillance "eyes." They bridge the gap between security concepts and physical installation by creating precise, scaled blueprints.
Key Responsibilities
System Layouts:
Designing detailed floor plans that specify the exact location of cameras, ensuring optimal viewing angles and minimal blind spots.
Schematic Drawings:
Creating riser diagrams that show the connectivity between cameras, network switches, and the Network Video Recorder (NVR) or server.
Technical Detail:
Drafting mounting details (pole, ceiling, or wall mounts) and containment layouts (conduits, cable trays, and trunking).
Compliance & Standards:
Ensuring all drawings meet local civil defense codes, security industry standards, and project specifications.
Coordination:
Working alongside electrical and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) teams to prevent "clashes"--for example, making sure a camera's view isn't blocked by a newly installed AC duct.
Essential Skills
Software Mastery:
Expert-level proficiency in
AutoCAD
is a must; knowledge of
Revit (BIM)
is increasingly required for modern infrastructure.
Field Logic:
An understanding of lens focal lengths and storage calculations to ensure the drafted design actually works in reality.
Documentation:
Managing "As-Built" drawings, which reflect the final, real-world installation after the project is completed.
