Job Description
An Electrical Engineer specializing in Switching and Operation is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient management of high-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, typically within power plants, substations, or large-scale industrial facilities. This role focuses on controlling energy flow through switching, maintaining system integrity, and adhering to strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols.
Key Responsibilities
HV/MV/LV Switching Operations:
Perform authorized, planned, and emergency switching operations for 220 KV/132 KV/33 KV systems (GIS/AIS) in accordance with grid codes and utility regulations.System Monitoring & Control:
Use Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Power Management Systems (PMS) to monitor, control, and analyze real-time substation performance.Operational Safety:
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), Permit to Work (PTW), and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).Maintenance Coordination:
Schedule, plan, and supervise preventive and corrective maintenance (e.g., using SAP CMMS) on equipment like transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgears.Fault Troubleshooting:
Respond to system abnormalities, alarms, and faults to minimize downtime.Interface with Utilities:
Coordinate with local utility authorities (e.g., Kahramaa) for outages, load management, and power quality issues.Documentation:
Maintain technical records, operating logs, and reports for all switching operations and maintenance activities.Required Qualifications and Skills
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.Experience:
5-12 years of experience in electrical O&M (Operation & Maintenance) in power, oil & gas, or utility-scale solar industries.Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of GIS/AIS substations, protection systems, power transformers, and SCADA.Authorizations:
Mandatory HV Switching Authorization (e.g., 220kV).Soft Skills:
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills to work effectively under pressure.Job Type: Full-time
