to determine the exact placement, routing, and connection requirements for all electrical devices.
Layout and Marking:
Marking and setting out the exact locations for power outlets, switches, light fixtures, data points, and distribution boards according to the approved layout.
Clash Management:
Proactively identifying and resolving potential clashes between electrical conduits/fittings and other services (HVAC ducts, plumbing) within false ceilings and wall cavities.
2. Specialized Installation Work
Lighting Systems:
Installation and connection of a wide variety of specialized and decorative lighting, including:
Recessed/Downlights, LED strip lighting, track lighting, chandeliers, and custom architectural fixtures.
Ensuring correct positioning and alignment of fixtures for aesthetic results, as per the RCP.
Power and Connectivity:
Installation of all medium-voltage systems:
Installing and wiring
power sockets, floor boxes, wall sockets, and specialized appliance outlets
(e.g., for kitchen equipment).
Installing and terminating data, telephone, and network cabling (Structured Cabling Systems).
Distribution Boards (DBs):
Installing, wiring, connecting, and labeling sub-main and final distribution boards, ensuring correct load balancing and circuit segregation.
Extra-Low Voltage (ELV) Systems:
Installing and terminating components for low-voltage systems, often including:
Fire Alarm System
wiring and device mounting (smoke detectors, heat detectors).
Security Systems
(CCTV, access control, motion sensors).
Public Address (PA) and Sound Systems.
3. Testing, Commissioning, and Handover
Pre-Commissioning Checks:
Performing continuity, polarity, and insulation resistance tests on all installed wiring and circuits prior to system energization.
System Testing:
Conducting functional tests on all lighting, power circuits, and ELV systems to ensure they operate according to design specifications.
Load Balancing:
Measuring phase loads at distribution boards and making adjustments to ensure even load distribution across circuits.
Defect Rectification:
Rapidly identifying and rectifying any electrical defects ("snags") identified during client/consultant inspections to meet project handover deadlines.
Documentation:
Marking up site drawings (red-lining) to create accurate
As-Built drawings
reflecting the final installation and completing all necessary test certificates.
In short, a fit-out electrician must be a highly skilled installer who combines technical compliance with the aesthetic demands of interior design, working quickly and neatly within finished or soon-to-be-finished spaces.
