Position Summary
The Facilities Electrician is a crucial member of our maintenance team, responsible for ensuring the operational integrity, safety, and reliability of all electrical systems within our facilities. This role involves a combination of planned preventive maintenance, rapid response to emergency repairs, and installation of new electrical infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a proactive, skilled, and safety-conscious professional who can work independently and as part of a team to support the continuous operation of our building systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance & Repair:
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on electrical systems, including panelboards, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, and emergency power systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical malfunctions using schematics, blueprints, and testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, ammeters).
Repair and replace faulty electrical components, such as circuit breakers, relays, switches, fuses, and wiring.
Maintain and repair lighting systems throughout the facility, including interior, exterior, and emergency lighting (exit signs, egress path lighting).
Service and maintain electrical components of building equipment, including HVAC systems, pumps, motors, conveyors, and commercial kitchen equipment.
2. Installation & Project Work:
Install, conduit, wire, and terminate new electrical circuits for equipment relocations, office reconfigurations, and facility upgrades.
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and one-line diagrams to plan and execute work.
Assist in the planning and execution of small-to-medium electrical renovation projects.
3. Safety & Compliance:
Adhere strictly to all National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA, and company-specific safety standards and procedures.
Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures diligently to ensure a zero-energy state before beginning work.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Inspect electrical systems for code compliance and potential safety hazards, reporting findings to management.
Ensure all work is performed to the highest quality and safety standards.
4. Emergency Response:
Serve as a first responder for after-hours electrical emergencies, such as power outages, equipment failures, and critical system alarms, as part of an on-call rotation.
Quickly diagnose and resolve issues to minimize downtime and disruption to business operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid state Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a commercial or industrial electrician.
Proven experience in facilities maintenance, plant maintenance, or a similar setting.
Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and OSHA safety standards.
Proficiency in reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
Experience with low-voltage systems (e.g., fire alarm, security, data/communications).
Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) or energy management systems.
Experience using a CMMS (e.g., Maximo, Fiix, eMaint).
OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification.
Technical Skills & Abilities
Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment for electrical work.
Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
Strong understanding of three-phase power, distribution systems, and motor controls.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
Work may be performed in a variety of environments, including mechanical rooms, offices, manufacturing floors, and outdoors.
May be exposed to loud noises, dust, and varying temperatures.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the task and company policy.
