The Electrical Engineer is crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient integration of electrical components that power, control, and monitor HVAC systems, e.g. Chillers. It involves designing and implementing electrical systems that meet the HVAC requirements while adhering to safety and compliance standards.
Responsibilities:
Electrical Design for HVAC Systems:
Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and load calculations specific to the HVAC system.
Review the power distribution for HVAC equipment.
Determine the electrical requirements for HVAC control systems, including sensors, thermostats, and control panels/ starter panels.
Select appropriate electrical equipment based on HVAC specifications.
Coordination with other Departments:
Collaborate with other departments to ensure that the electrical systems meet HVAC design requirements.
Work with subcontractors to ensure the correct electrical components are selected and delivered on time.
Assist in coordinating the installation sequence to ensure the electrical work aligns with HVAC and overall construction timelines.
Identify the scope of work related to HVAC system.
Power Supply and Distribution:
Ensure the electrical infrastructure of the HVAC systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, electrical cables and switchgear, meets the supply power requirements.
Ensure correct sizing of electrical cables, conduits, and breakers to handle the HVAC system's power load and avoid overloading.
Provide solutions for integrating backup power or redundancy systems (e.g., UPS or generators) for critical HVAC components.
Control Systems and Automation:
Supervision of electrical control systems, such as building management systems (BMS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and automation systems.
Ensure AC control systems integrate with other building services (e.g., lighting, security systems) for energy efficiency and monitoring.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure that all electrical installations comply with local authority standards and environmental standards.
Verify grounding and bonding of electrical systems to prevent electrical hazards.
Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols for electrical installations.
Ensure that HVAC electrical systems are compliant with energy efficiency regulations.
Testing and Commissioning:
Oversee and perform tests on installed electrical systems for functionality, efficiency, and safety.
Verify the correct installation of electrical components, such as circuit breakers, wiring, and control panels.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP).
Strong knowledge of local electrical codes and safety standards (ADDC, DEWA, etc)
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with electrical installations, power distribution systems, and control systems.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Strong attention to detail and organisational abilities.
