The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, reviewing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems across Oil & Gas facilities and project sites. The role ensures all electrical installations comply with project specifications, international standards, and safety regulations. The Electrical Engineer supports construction, commissioning, and operational teams to maintain asset reliability, integrity, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering & Design
Prepare, review, and update electrical engineering drawings, specifications, and data sheets.
Ensure electrical designs comply with IEC, NEC, IEEE, and project-specific standards.
Evaluate engineering deliverables from EPC contractors and vendors to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Support development of single-line diagrams, cable schedules, load lists, and electrical layouts.
2. Construction & Installation Support
Provide technical guidance during electrical equipment installation such as switchgears, motors, transformers, UPS, and lighting systems.
Conduct material inspections to ensure compliance with approved specifications.
Troubleshoot electrical installation issues and propose corrective actions.
Participate in site acceptance tests (SAT) and inspections.
3. Testing, Commissioning & Maintenance
Support pre-commissioning and commissioning of electrical systems in collaboration with project and commissioning teams.
Conduct troubleshooting, loop checks, continuity tests, and functional tests.
Ensure equipment preservation, energization procedures, and operational readiness.
Monitor electrical equipment performance and recommend maintenance strategies.
4. Compliance & Safety
Ensure all electrical work aligns with Qatar Energy, HSE, and regulatory requirements.
Identify risks, electrical hazards, and ensure implementation of safety controls.
Review and approve method statements, risk assessments, and work permits.
Promote electrical safety awareness and safe work practices.
5. Coordination & Stakeholder Management
Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, and vendors.
Attend project progress meetings and provide electrical engineering updates.
Liaise with procurement teams for technical evaluation of electrical equipment.
Ensure proper documentation and support preparation of handover packages.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).
5-10 years
of experience in Oil & Gas EPC, construction, or operations environments.
Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, motor controls, protection systems, and hazardous area equipment (ATEX/IECEx).
Experience with large industrial power systems, substations, and electrical rotating equipment.
Familiarity with electrical design software (ETAP, AutoCAD, SP3D, etc.) preferred.
Experience working in GCC or major project sites is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of international electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC).
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem?solving abilities.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documents.
Experienced in vendor coordination and technical evaluations.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Proficiency in MS Office and engineering software tools.
